Port Adelaide & Gillman

Commercial scrap collection in Port Adelaide.

The Port is heavy industry, marine trades and shipyard work, which produces a metal mix you do not see anywhere else in Adelaide: a lot of stainless, a lot of plate, and marine fittings in bronze and brass that are worth more than most people expect.

  • Stainless and bronze
  • Heavy plate
  • Marine fittings
  • Industrial plant

Marine work is corrosion work, which means stainless, bronze and brass instead of plain steel. That changes the economics completely. A bin of marine fittings is worth several times a bin of the same weight in mild steel, and it is exactly the material most likely to be treated as general scrap.

What the Port generates

  • Marine fittings and hardware. Bronze and brass valves, propellers, shafts, fittings, bollards. Heavy, dense, high value.
  • Stainless. Rails, tanks, pipework, fabricated sections. One of the better rates after the copper family.
  • Heavy plate and section. Shipyard and fabrication offcuts.
  • Industrial plant. Pumps, compressors, winches, motors, generators.
  • Cable and electrical. Heavy marine and industrial cable, switchboards.
  • Aluminium. Hulls, superstructure offcuts, extrusion.

Indicative rates, the same ones on the home page. Metal markets move every week, so ring 0435 805 124 for the exact figure before you load up.

Bronze and the heavier brasses are not a separate line on this table but they sit in the brass family and they pay well. Ring with what you have, because on marine hardware the exact alloy matters and it is worth a conversation rather than a guess.

Access and weight

Port sites are usually fine for trucks but the weights are higher than average. Plate, shafts and castings add up fast, so tell us roughly what you are sitting on before we send a vehicle. Heavy single items may need lifting gear, which we would rather plan than discover.

How it works

  1. Ring with the site and what the operation produces.
  2. Bins for volume, separate containers for stainless and the bronze family.
  3. Collected on schedule or on call.
  4. Weighed by grade in front of you.
  5. Paid by EFT to the business.

Questions we get asked

Do you buy bronze and propellers?

Yes. Those are among the better items we see. Ring with the weight and we will talk about the alloy.

Can you take heavy single items?

Yes, with notice so we bring lifting gear. Tell us the weight when you ring.

Do you handle shipyard volumes?

Ring and talk it through. Larger ongoing volumes get a standing arrangement rather than ad hoc pickups.

Marine or industrial site at the Port?

Tell us what you produce and roughly the weights. We will set the containers and the schedule.
