Rural scrap is different in one way that matters: distance. Getting a truck out to a property has a real cost, so a single trough is not a job. A heap that has been accumulating for twenty years absolutely is, and so is a run of dead machinery, and those are what most properties actually have.
What we take off rural property
- Fencing wire and posts. Old barbed and plain wire, steel posts, star pickets, ringlock. Bulky but real weight.
- Irrigation pipe and fittings. Aluminium and steel pipe, risers, brass and galvanised fittings. Aluminium pipe is the pick of it.
- Machinery and implements. Dead headers, old tractors, ploughs, slashers, augers, harvesters. Ring with what it is, how big and whether it rolls.
- Tanks and troughs. Galvanised and steel tanks, concrete-free troughs, stands.
- Sheds and structural steel. Collapsed sheds, frames, purlins, iron cladding.
- Pumps, motors and generators. Copper wound, good value per kilo.
- Batteries. Off vehicles, machinery and solar banks. Bought by weight and they must not be left to leak.
- Copper and brass. Pipework, fittings, electrical, worth separating out before we arrive.
Rates
Indicative rates, the same ones on the home page. Metal markets move every week, so ring 0435 805 124 for the exact figure before you load up.
On a farm heap, most of the weight is steel and iron at the bottom of the table, and most of the value is in a much smaller pile of copper, brass and aluminium. It is worth pulling that smaller pile aside before collection day.
Distance and minimums
We collect across metropolitan Adelaide and out to regional centres including Gawler, Mount Barker and Murray Bridge, and further by arrangement. Beyond the metro area there is a minimum load that makes the trip viable. Ring with the location and a rough idea of the heap and we will tell you straight away whether it stacks up, rather than booking a trip we both regret.
Access is half the job
- Can a truck get to the heap, or does it need to come to the gate?
- Is there a loader or tractor on site, or do we bring lifting gear?
- Is the track usable after rain?
- Is the heap one pile or spread across three paddocks?
None of those are dealbreakers. All of them change the vehicle and the time, so the more you tell us up front the more accurate the number is.
How a farm clear-out runs
- Ring or message with the property location, a few photos and what is in the heap.
- We give you a realistic figure and tell you honestly if the distance does not work.
- Book a day. Pull the copper, brass and aluminium aside beforehand if you can.
- We weigh by type on site so you can see what earned what.
- Paid to the business or the property owner, with the weights in writing.
