An auto workshop throws away better scrap per square metre than almost anyone. The parts are small, dense and high grade, and because they come off in ones and twos they never look like enough to deal with. Six months later there is a pile behind the workshop worth a few hundred dollars that nobody has got around to moving.
What we buy off auto workshops
- Radiators. Copper and brass radiators off older vehicles pay well, aluminium and plastic ones far less. Telling them apart is most of the value, which is why we weigh them separately in front of you.
- Alternators and starter motors. Copper wound, dense, paid per kilo whole. No need to strip them.
- Lead acid batteries. Bought by weight. They cannot legally go in a bin and they are worth money, so there is no reason they should ever end up in general waste.
- Alloy wheels. Aluminium, good rate, and they come off as a set. Tyres need to be off, or tell us and we will talk about it.
- Exhausts and catalytic shells. Steel and stainless systems.
- Engine and gearbox cases. Aluminium cases, cast iron blocks and heads.
- Air conditioning compressors and condensers. Off the same vehicles.
- Wiring harnesses. Insulated copper, bought as wire.
Rates
Indicative rates, the same ones on the home page. Metal markets move every week, so ring 0435 805 124 for the exact figure before you load up.
Copper and brass radiators are the standout on this list. If your shop still sees older vehicles, keeping those separate from the aluminium ones is worth doing properly.
How it works for a workshop
- Tell us the workshop suburb and roughly what comes off a month.
- We set you up with a bin for general steel and a crate or drum for the small high-value parts.
- Parts go in as they come off the car. No sorting beyond keeping the good stuff out of the steel bin.
- Ring when it is ready, or fix a monthly run.
- Weighed by type, paid to the business.
